Plössl, orthoscopic and other standard-field eyepieces use simple designs with only a few lens elements and an apparent field of roughly 40° to 65°, giving sharp, high-contrast views of the Moon, planets and double stars. Classic Plössls and orthos such as the Takahashi TPL and Starbase OR series give a narrower field, while the Explore Scientific 52° and 62° Series, Celestron X-Cel LX and Ursa Major FMC Flatfield lines open up to roughly 52° to 65°. For a wider view of deep-sky objects, see Wide-Field Eyepieces.
