A Daystar Quark is a hydrogen-alpha solar filter that fits a refractor's focuser or diagonal, turning an ordinary telescope into an H-alpha solar telescope; it needs power for its internal heater and, on larger apertures, an energy-rejection filter in front of the objective. Chromosphere models are tuned for surface detail such as filaments and plage and Prominence models for limb prominences, with the eyepiece versions including a built-in Barlow and the Combo versions designed to work with a separate Barlow, alongside the Quark Gemini and Calcium, Sodium D and Magnesium b2 Quarks for other solar wavelengths. For Barlows, reducers and adapters, see Daystar Quark Accessories.
