Product Overview

The DUP24 is the longest of Losmandy's universal D-series dovetail plates. It carries six sets of mounting holes — 3.5", 60 mm, 2", 1.5", 35 mm and 1.25" separations — so it bolts to rings and cradles from most makers without drilling. It is 24 inches long, 0.7 inches thick and weighs 4.2 lb, and one safety stop screw is included.

Who It's For

Length buys two things: reach for widely spaced rings, and fore-and-aft travel in the saddle. Both matter on a long refractor or a large SCT with a full imaging train hanging off the back, where a shorter plate runs out of adjustment before the rig balances. The six hole separations cover Astro-Physics, Astro-Tech, Borg, Celestron, Explore Scientific, Meade, Orion, Parallax, Questar, Stellarvue, Takahashi, Tele Vue, Vixen and William Optics.

Key Features & Design

  • Six mounting hole separations: 3.5", 60 mm, 2", 1.5", 35 mm and 1.25".
  • 24 inches long, 0.7 inches thick, at 4.2 lb.
  • Fits rings and cradles from Astro-Physics, Astro-Tech, Borg, Celestron, Explore Scientific, Meade, Orion, Parallax, Questar, Stellarvue, Takahashi, Tele Vue, Vixen and William Optics.
  • One safety stop screw included.
  • D-series profile, accepted by every current Losmandy saddle.

Recommended Uses

Carrying a long refractor or a large SCT with a heavy imaging train. Mounting widely spaced tube rings that a shorter plate cannot reach. Building a platform that carries the main tube plus a guide scope and its rings on one bar. Setups where balance shifts as the camera train changes and travel in the saddle is worth having.

Compatibility and Accessory Notes

  • Saddles: any Losmandy D-series saddle — the G-11 saddle, the GM8 saddle plate, and the twin saddles on the AZ8.
  • Shorter options: the 14" and 19" plates.
  • Rings: the DVR108 guide scope rings mount onto the plate, with the DVR66 camera ring to steady a guide camera.
  • Male-to-male: the DMM adapter plate mates to any DUP plate to create a male-to-male dovetail.
  • Front counterbalance: the 2" and 5" counterbalance systems bolt to the plate for a rear-heavy tube.

Good to Know Before You Order

  • 4.2 lb of plate counts against your payload. On a mount near its imaging rating that is worth adding to the sum before you order.
  • Check your ring spacing against the six separations. Losmandy publishes a hole-pattern drawing for the DUP plates — send us your ring model and we will confirm the fit.
  • 24 inches is longer than most tubes. Overhang is harmless, but if you do not need the reach or the travel, the 19" plate saves a pound and a half.
  • Specifications are Losmandy's published figures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it difficult to set up?

No. Bolt it to your rings through the matching hole separation, slide it into the saddle, clamp, and fit the safety stop screw.

Do I need 24 inches?

You need it when your rings are too widely spaced for a shorter plate, or when the rig will not balance within the travel a shorter plate gives you. Otherwise the 19" is the lighter choice.

Will it fit my rings?

Six separations from 1.25" to 3.5" cover most major makers. Tell us your ring model and we will check it.

Can I mount a guide scope on the same plate?

Yes — that is one of the main reasons to buy the length. The DVR108 rings mount to the spare hole positions.

What is the safety stop screw for?

It prevents the plate sliding out of the saddle if the clamp is loosened with the telescope attached.

Bottom Line

In short: Losmandy's 24-inch universal D-series plate, six hole separations from 1.25" to 3.5", 0.7" thick at 4.2 lb, safety stop screw included — the length for a long tube, widely spaced rings, or a heavy imaging train that needs balance travel.
