Product Overview

The ZWO ASI2600MC Duo combines a cooled APS-C colour imaging camera and an integrated guide sensor in one body. The main sensor is Sony’s IMX571 APS-C sensor with 6248 × 4176 resolution, 3.76 µm pixels, native 16-bit ADC, up to 14 stops of dynamic range, and an extended full-well mode up to 73ke.

The built-in guide sensor is the SC2210, the same guide-sensor platform used in ZWO’s ASI220MM Mini family. It has a 7.68 mm × 4.32 mm sensor area, 1920 × 1080 resolution, 4 µm pixels, high near-infrared sensitivity, and low read noise.

Who It’s For

This is a good match if you want an APS-C one-shot-colour cooled camera with integrated guiding, fewer cables, and no separate off-axis guider or guide camera in the imaging train.

Key Features & Design

  • Two-in-one design: Main imaging sensor and guide sensor in one compact camera body.
  • Sony IMX571 main sensor: APS-C 26 MP sensor with 3.76 µm pixels.
  • SC2210 guide sensor: 1920 × 1080 guide sensor with 4 µm pixels and strong NIR sensitivity.
  • Native 16-bit ADC: Supports smooth gradients and high dynamic range deep-sky imaging.
  • USB 3.0 and 512 MB DDR3: Supports stable high-resolution image transfer.
  • TEC cooling: Lowers the sensor temperature by about 30°C–35°C below ambient under ZWO test conditions.

Optical / Mechanical Design

The ASI2600MC Duo places the guide sensor beside the main APS-C imaging sensor so guiding is handled through the same camera body. This reduces back-end complexity, but guide-star shape can still be affected by reducer backfocus and optical-field quality near the guide sensor position.

Camera Performance

The ASI2600 Duo uses the same core IMX571 APS-C imaging platform as the ASI2600 Pro family, with high dynamic range, low read noise, and HCG behaviour that supports clean long-exposure imaging.

QE / Relative Response

The ASI2600MC Duo uses the colour version of the IMX571 imaging sensor. The relative-response graph below shows the colour-channel response across wavelength.

Recommended Uses

  • Deep-sky imaging with integrated guiding: Reduce cables and remove the need for a separate OAG and guide camera.
  • Portable rigs: A cleaner setup for travel mounts and compact systems.
  • One-shot-colour imaging: A simpler workflow than monochrome imaging with filter wheels.

Compatibility and Accessory Notes

Use the ASI2600MC Duo with optics that support APS-C coverage and sufficient corrected field around the guide sensor. ZWO notes that guide-star corners affected by reducer backfocus may not appear perfectly round, and this does not necessarily indicate sensor tilt.

Important Limitations

  • Guide-star shape depends on the optical train: Reducer spacing and edge-field quality can affect guide images.
  • Colour sensor: Choose the ASI2600MM Duo if you need monochrome imaging and filters.
  • Requires external power: Cooling and camera operation require suitable 12 V power.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the ASI2600MC Duo need a separate guide camera?

No. The guide sensor is built into the camera body.

Is this the colour version?

Yes. The ASI2600MC Duo is the colour version of the Duo family.

Does it replace an off-axis guider?

For many setups, yes. The built-in guide sensor is intended to remove the need for a separate OAG and guide camera.

Bottom Line

In short: the ASI2600MC Duo is a cooled APS-C colour camera with integrated guiding, useful for cleaner deep-sky imaging setups with fewer cables and fewer separate guiding components.
