Product Overview

The MEF-3 adds fine focus adjustment to a Takahashi focuser. Beyond the reduction itself, the tension on the fine focus knob is adjustable — tighten it and the focuser holds a heavier load without creeping, loosen it and it turns freely for ordinary focusing.

That adjustment is the part worth understanding. A focuser carrying a camera, filter drawer and adapters is under constant load, and a focus mechanism set up for a light eyepiece will let that load pull the drawtube. Being able to dial the drag to the train you are actually running is what keeps focus where you put it.
