Product Overview
This is the Pegasus Astro Saddle Powerbox puck for the Sky-Watcher HEQ5, and for compatible Orion-branded mounts. The Saddle Powerbox bolts straight onto an NYX-101 with no extra hardware; on every other mount it needs a puck cut for that mount's saddle interface, and this is the HEQ5 one.
It is a mechanical adapter. It carries the Saddle Powerbox — it does not add or change anything electrical.
Who It's For
This is a good match if you:
- Own a Saddle Powerbox and an HEQ5 and need the part that joins the two.
- Want power, dew and USB to start at the saddle rather than running a bundle of leads up from the tripod.
- Are moving a Saddle Powerbox between mounts and want a puck left permanently on each one.
Key Features & Design
- Mount-specific fit: cut for the Sky-Watcher HEQ5 saddle and compatible Orion mounts.
- Puts the powerbox at the saddle: the Saddle Powerbox sits between the mount and the telescope, which shortens every cable run on the imaging train.
- Part of a mount-specific range: Pegasus Astro publishes pucks for the AM5/AM3, NEQ6 and EQ6-R, RST-135 and RST-300, AZ-EQ6, iOptron CEM26 and GEM28, Star Adventurer GTi, and Avalon M-UNO and LINEAR.
- Mechanical only: no electronics, no ports, no effect on the Saddle Powerbox's outputs or sensors.
Recommended Uses
- Fitting a Saddle Powerbox to an HEQ5 for on-mount power and USB distribution.
- Keeping a dedicated puck on each mount in a multi-mount setup so the powerbox itself can move between them.
- Portable HEQ5 rigs where a single 12 V feed to the saddle replaces several separate leads.
Compatibility and Accessory Notes
- Requires a Saddle Powerbox. The puck is the interface between that unit and your mount; on its own it does nothing.
- Fits the Sky-Watcher HEQ5 and compatible Orion-branded mounts of the same saddle type.
- Not needed on an NYX-101. The Saddle Powerbox attaches to that mount directly.
- The Saddle Powerbox itself is 110 x 110 x 32 mm, takes 12–14 V DC, and provides four 12 V outputs (10 A total), two PWM dew channels, two USB 3.1 and two USB 2 ports, and onboard temperature, humidity and dew-point sensing. Its clamp accepts Losmandy and Vixen bars and is rated to a 40 kg payload — comfortably beyond what an HEQ5 itself carries.
- On a different mount? Tell us which one and we will confirm which puck in the range matches it.
Good to Know Before You Order
- The puck is mount-specific. An HEQ5 puck fits the HEQ5; the AZ-EQ6, NEQ6/EQ6-R, CEM26/GEM28, GTi, AM5 and M-UNO versions are separate parts, all of which we stock.
- Pegasus Astro publishes no material, dimensions or weight for the pucks. Those specification rows are left out rather than filled with figures we cannot source from the manufacturer.
- It is an adapter, not a powerbox. Ordering this alone gets you the mounting interface; the Saddle Powerbox is a separate product.
- The powerbox adds weight above the saddle. On an HEQ5 that is worth counting into your payload alongside the telescope and camera.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it difficult to set up?
No. The puck fixes to the mount, and the Saddle Powerbox then attaches to the puck. It is a bolt-on part with no wiring and no configuration.
Will it fit an EQ6-R or AZ-EQ6?
No. Those use PEG-PUCK-EQ6R and PEG-PUCK-EQ6AZ respectively. This one is the HEQ5 version.
Do I need this if I have an NYX-101?
No. The Saddle Powerbox mounts to the NYX-101 without any additional component.
Does it change what the Saddle Powerbox can do?
No. Outputs, dew channels, USB ports and sensors are all unaffected — the puck only carries the unit.
Can I leave the puck on the mount permanently?
Yes, and that is the usual approach when the powerbox moves between mounts.
Bottom Line
In short: the mount-specific adapter that puts a Pegasus Astro Saddle Powerbox onto a Sky-Watcher HEQ5. One bolt-on part, and every cable on the imaging train gets shorter.
