Product Overview

This is the Pegasus Astro CNC-machined aluminium enclosure for the Ultimate Powerbox v2, listed by Pegasus Astro as the Aluminium 2020 CNC Enclosure for UPBv2. It is a replacement housing for the UPBv2 electronics — a machined aluminium case in place of the standard enclosure, for the same 135 x 107 x 30 mm unit.

It is a housing, not a controller. Everything the UPBv2 does electrically is unchanged by fitting it.

Who It's For

This is a good match if you:

  • Own an Ultimate Powerbox v2 and want a machined aluminium case for it.
  • Have a damaged or worn enclosure and want to rehouse working electronics rather than replace the whole unit.
  • Run a permanent observatory install where the powerbox stays mounted and exposed between sessions.

Key Features & Design

  • CNC-machined aluminium construction: a machined case rather than a folded or moulded one.
  • Made for the UPBv2: cut for the Ultimate Powerbox v2's port layout — XT60 input, four 12 V outputs, the variable and always-on outputs, three dew RCA channels, the USB 3.1 hub ports and the RJ45 stepper connection.
  • Enclosure only: the UPBv2 electronics, sensors and firmware are unaffected — this changes what the unit is housed in, nothing about what it does.

Recommended Uses

  • Rehousing an existing Ultimate Powerbox v2 in machined aluminium.
  • Replacing an enclosure that has been damaged in transport or in the field.
  • Permanent pier or observatory installations where the powerbox lives outdoors under a cover.

Compatibility and Accessory Notes

  • Ultimate Powerbox v2 only. It is machined for the v2 port layout and its 135 x 107 x 30 mm footprint. It does not fit the UPBv3 (127.3 x 116 x 30 mm) or the Pocket Powerbox range.
  • Mounting accessories are separate. The UPBv2 dovetail bracket pair and the Small Factor PC Top Plate are their own parts; we stock those alongside this.
  • Not sure this is the part you need? Send us a photo of your powerbox and we will confirm which version you have before you order.

Good to Know Before You Order

  • Fitting it means opening your powerbox. The electronics are transferred from the existing housing into this one. If you would rather not do that yourself, talk to us first.
  • Pegasus Astro publishes no weight, wall thickness, finish or dimensional drawing for this enclosure. Rather than quote figures we cannot source from the manufacturer, we have left those rows out.
  • It adds no functionality. Ports, outputs, sensors and software behaviour are the UPBv2's, unchanged.
  • Aluminium at the telescope reaches ambient quickly. That is normal for a machined case and is not a fault.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it difficult to set up?

It takes more than bolting on — the UPBv2 board moves from its current housing into this one. It is straightforward with a screwdriver and a careful hand, and we are happy to talk you through it before you start.

Does it change what the powerbox can do?

No. All four 12 V outputs, the variable and always-on outputs, the three dew channels, the USB hub and the stepper controller work exactly as before.

Will it fit a UPBv3?

No. The v3 is a different size with a different port layout.

Can I mount it the same way as the standard enclosure?

Mounting hardware for the UPBv2 — the dovetail brackets and the top plate — is sold separately. Ask us and we will confirm what works with this housing for your setup.

What is the "2020" in the vendor's name?

That is Pegasus Astro's own designation for this enclosure in their catalogue. They publish no further explanation of it.

Bottom Line

In short: a CNC-machined aluminium replacement housing for the Ultimate Powerbox v2, cut for the v2 port layout. It changes what your powerbox is wrapped in and leaves everything it does alone.
