- Description
Secure your telescope tripod to your JMI Wheeley Bar with this Tie-Down Bracket Kit. Wheeley Bars are inherently stable, but on uneven surfaces, rough terrain, or during transit, your tripod can tip sideways off the frame — often with catastrophic results for your equipment. This kit prevents that.
Sturdy steel brackets bolt to your Wheeley Bar using the existing hardware. Heavy-duty ratchet straps are included to firmly anchor each tripod leg. Highly recommended for every setup — absolutely essential when rolling over uneven ground with the 10″ pneumatic wheel upgrade.
Product Overview
The Tie-Down Bracket Kit attaches to your Wheeley Bar frame at each leg position. Once installed, the ratchet straps loop over each tripod leg and cinch down tight, locking the tripod firmly to the dolly during transport. Removal is quick when you reach your observing position.
Who Is This Product Best For?
Every Wheeley Bar owner — this is a safety essential, not an optional upgrade. Particularly critical for imaging setups where a tip-over could damage thousands of dollars of equipment. Essential when using 10″ pneumatic wheels on grass, dirt, or gravel.
What's Included
- Steel mounting brackets (bolt to your Wheeley Bar using existing hardware)
- Heavy-duty ratchet straps — one per tripod leg position
Compatibility
- Standard Kit (TPWTDB): Fits the Medium Universal, HD Medium, HD Large, and Astro-Physics Pier Mount Wheeley Bars

Important Notes
- Do not use the Standard Kit on the HD Shorty — it will not fit correctly
- Do not use the Half Kit on Medium, HD Medium, or HD Large models
- Always secure the tie-down straps before moving your Wheeley Bar, especially on any surface other than a perfectly flat garage floor
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I really need this?
Yes — for any setup worth protecting. Wheeley Bars are stable at rest, but during movement across uneven surfaces, a tripod can slide or tip sideways. The Tie-Down Bracket Kit is inexpensive insurance for your mount, OTA, and imaging train.
Will this slow down my setup/teardown?
The ratchet straps take about 30 seconds to secure or release per leg. It adds roughly 90 seconds total to your setup routine — a trivial cost for the protection it provides.
Does this interfere with the 10″ pneumatic wheel upgrade?
No — the bracket kit is fully compatible with all wheel configurations.
