About the iOptron MiniTower Pro

The MiniTower Pro is iOptron's flagship alt-azimuth GoTo mount from the MiniTower line, now discontinued — complete packages like this one, still in their original case, don't come up often. It carries 33 lb on the primary saddle plus a further 10 lb on the secondary, which is serious capacity for an alt-az of this size, and it runs on dual-axis 12V DC servo motors with optical encoders resolving to 0.1 arc-seconds. Owners consistently single out how quiet those servos are compared to stepper-driven mounts — a real benefit at a dark site or in the backyard at 2am.

A 32-channel GPS receiver sets time, date and location automatically in either hemisphere, and the Go2Nova hand controller puts a database of roughly 130,000 objects plus 256 user-defined slots at your fingertips. The mount's party trick is dual-OTA operation: the supplied secondary Vixen dovetail plate replaces the counterweight so you can run two instruments side by side — a wide-field refractor alongside your main tube, or a visual scope beside a camera. Power is flexible too, running from the included supply, a 12V field battery, or eight AA cells when you want to travel light.
