Add 3 pounds of ballast to your Farpoint weight system as your rig grows.

Product Overview

The Farpoint Extra 3 Pound Counterweight is an expansion weight that adds another 3 lb of ballast to your Farpoint Dovetail Weight System. Added a heavier camera, a guide scope, or more glass to the imaging train? Stack on another weight instead of replacing your setup — the system grows with the rig. Each weight measures 4″ in diameter and is machined in the USA. This is the weight only; it mounts on the FDA quick-release saddle and screw included with Weight System 1 or System 2.

Who Is This Product Best For?

For astrophotographers and observers who already own a Farpoint Dovetail Weight System and need additional ballast as their payload grows. Not a standalone product — it is the expansion weight for an existing system.

Why Choose This Product?

  • Grow, don't replace: Add 3 lb at a time as your imaging train gets heavier.
  • Exact match: Same 3 lb, 4″ weight that ships with the Dovetail Weight Systems.
  • Durable: Machined in the USA with a black powder coat or bright zinc finish.

Recommended Uses

  • Expanding a Farpoint Dovetail Weight System 1 or System 2.
  • Adding ballast after upgrading to a heavier camera or guide scope.
  • Fine-tuning balance on a growing D-size imaging rig.

Compatibility and Accessory Notes

  • Works with the Farpoint Dovetail Weight System 1 and System 2.
  • Mounts on the quick-release saddle and screw included with those systems.
  • 3 lb each, 4″ diameter.

Important Limitations

  • Requires an existing Farpoint Dovetail Weight System — this is the weight only; no saddle or screw is included.
  • Finish (black powder coat or bright zinc) varies by production run and is cosmetic only, so it may not match weights already on your system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a weight system to use this?
Yes. This is the counterweight only and is designed to add onto the Farpoint Dovetail Weight System, which provides the FDA quick-release saddle and mounting screw. If you don't own one yet, start with System 1 or System 2.

How big is the weight?
Each counterweight weighs 3 lb and measures 4″ in diameter — the same weight that ships with the Dovetail Weight Systems.

Why does the color vary?
Weights are finished in either black powder coat or bright zinc plating (shiny silver) depending on the production run. The finish is cosmetic — weight and fit are identical either way.

Our Recommendation

At Ontario Telescope and Accessories, we recommend the Extra 3 Pound Counterweight for anyone already running a Farpoint Dovetail Weight System who needs more ballast. If you don't have a system yet, start with System 1 or System 2 first — this weight requires the saddle and screw those kits provide.
