Product Overview

Replace the stock Vixen saddle on your EQ6 or Orion Atlas — three screws, full D-size.

Older-generation Sky-Watcher EQ6 and Orion Atlas mounts shipped with a small, awkward Vixen-style saddle that limits what you can carry. The Farpoint EQ6 / Atlas Saddle Conversion replaces it outright with a full 7″ D-size (Losmandy-style) saddle — a complete drop-in unit that installs with the screws already on your mount. Machined from sturdy aluminum with a black anodized finish.

Who Is This Product Best For?

This product is designed for telescope owners and astrophotographers who use Losmandy-style (D-size) dovetail hardware. It is an ideal choice if you need a precision-machined, reliable mounting solution that integrates with the Losmandy-style (D-size) ecosystem of plates, saddles, and accessories.

Why Choose This Product?

  • Precision machined: CNC-machined and anodized for a tight, secure fit on Losmandy-style (D-size) hardware.
  • Built to last: Aircraft-grade aluminum construction resists flexing under load and holds alignment.
  • Trusted brand: Farpoint Astro is a respected name in telescope mounting hardware, made in the USA.

Recommended Uses

Use this telescope dovetail saddle for visual observing and astrophotography setups that rely on the Losmandy-style (D-size) dovetail standard, including mounting optical tubes, guide scopes, cameras, and accessories.

Compatibility and Accessory Notes

Key compatibility and fit details:

  • Function: Replaces the stock Vixen-style saddle with a full D-size (Losmandy-style) saddle
  • Fits mounts: Sky-Watcher EQ6 and Orion Atlas with the standard (older) saddle profile
  • Installation: Loosen the stock puck screws, attach the complete unit, re-tighten — no machining
  • Length: 7″
  • Fits bars: D-size (Losmandy-style) dovetail bars
  • Material: Black anodized aluminum
  • Construction: CNC-machined in the USA

Important Limitations

This is a Losmandy-style (D-size) component and is not compatible with V-size (Vixen-style) hardware unless an adapter is used. Verify your telescope's mounting pattern and your mount's saddle width before purchasing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it fit my mount?
It fits Sky-Watcher EQ6 and Orion Atlas mounts with the standard (older) saddle profile. EQ6-family mounts were made with two profiles over the years — check your stock puck against the profile diagram. Unsure? Email us a photo of your mount's saddle and we'll confirm.

How hard is the installation?
Easy — loosen the screws that hold the original saddle puck, set the stock saddle aside, attach the complete Farpoint unit, and re-tighten. No machining, no drilling, fully reversible.

Is a dovetail bar included?
No — this is the saddle conversion only. Pair it with one of our universal D-size dovetail bars or use the D bar already on your telescope.

Our Recommendation

If you run a Losmandy-style (D-size) setup, the Farpoint D-Size Saddle Conversion for Sky-Watcher EQ6 / Orion Atlas is a dependable, precision choice that will integrate cleanly with the rest of your Farpoint dovetail system. Ontario Telescope and Accessories stocks the full Farpoint lineup to help you build a complete, matched mounting solution.
