Product Overview

The Celestron Weatherproof Telescope Cover (#94039) goes over a fully assembled telescope, tripod included, and protects it for short periods from dew, dust, light rain and sun. The outer layer is aluminum-laminated fabric, the lining is 210D polyester, and a cinch drawstring holds it in place. It opens to 1470 × 1795 mm (57.87" × 70.1"), fits most Celestron telescopes up to 11" aperture, weighs 1.34 lb (0.61 kg), and folds to 290 × 45 × 419 mm (11.41" × 1.77" × 16.5").

Who It's For

This is a good match if you leave your telescope set up between sessions: across several nights at a star party, through a passing shower, or on a backyard pad or in a roll-off observatory where you'd rather not tear down and re-align every evening.

Key Features & Design

  • Reflective aluminum-laminated outer: the silver surface reflects sunlight, keeping your equipment cooler during the day and helping hold a steadier temperature at night.
  • 210D polyester lining: a soft inner layer between the cover and your telescope's finish.
  • Cinch drawstring with ball lock: pulls the cover in around the tripod. Where you cinch it sets the height and fit for your setup and helps keep out wind, dust and light moisture.
  • Large enough for the whole rig: at 1470 × 1795 mm it covers the optical tube, mount and tripod together.
  • Light and packable: 1.34 lb, folding to 11.41" × 1.77" × 16.5" for a gear bag, vehicle or observatory drawer.
  • Easy to clean: wipes down with a damp cloth or mild soap and water.

Recommended Uses

  • Star parties: keep your telescope assembled and aligned across consecutive nights.
  • Weather pauses: cover the rig during a passing shower or a dewy spell, then pick up where you left off.
  • Daytime sun protection: reflects sunlight off a set-up telescope during daylight hours.
  • Backyard and observatory dust cover: keeps dust and pollen off between sessions.

Compatibility and Accessory Notes

Celestron lists the cover as fitting most of its telescopes up to 11" aperture, with the tripod:

  • Advanced VX, CGEM II, CGX and CGX-L (CGX-L excludes 14")
  • Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes and kits, and EdgeHD telescopes and kits (both exclude 14")
  • RASA telescopes and kits (excludes 36 cm)
  • Celestron Origin Intelligent Home Observatory
  • NexStar SE, NexStar SLT, NexStar Evolution, and CPC / CPC Deluxe
  • Omni XLT, Astro Fi, ExploraScope, and StarSense Explorer lines (not recommended for StarSense Explorer tabletop Dobsonians)

Large finderscopes, dual saddle mounts and other add-ons on the optical tube may need to come off for the best fit. If you aren't sure whether it will cover your setup, send us the details and we'll check it for you.

Good to Know Before You Order

  • Short-term protection: the cover is made for dust, dew, light rain and sun. It isn't built for severe or prolonged weather, so heavy rain, heavy snow and high winds are times to bring the telescope indoors.
  • Size limit: 14" Schmidt-Cassegrain and EdgeHD tubes and the 36 cm RASA are outside its fit range.
  • Accessories on the tube: bulky add-ons may need to come off to get the cover fully over the rig.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it difficult to set up?

No. Drape it over the telescope and tripod, then pull the drawstring to cinch it at the height that suits your setup.

Will it fit my 8" SCT on a CGEM II?

Yes. CGEM II and Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes up to 11" are on Celestron's compatibility list.

Can I leave my telescope outside under it permanently?

It's designed for short-term protection between sessions. For long-term outdoor storage or severe weather, the telescope belongs indoors.

Does it cover the tripod too?

Yes. At 1470 × 1795 mm it's sized to cover the telescope, mount and tripod as a set.

Does it fit the Celestron Origin?

Yes. Celestron lists the Origin Intelligent Home Observatory as compatible.

How do I clean it?

Wipe it with a damp cloth, or mild soap and water.

Bottom Line

In short, this is a light, reflective, packable cover that goes over an assembled Celestron telescope up to 11", tripod and all, and protects it from dew, dust, light rain and sun between sessions.
