Used – Good Condition. A Celestron NexImage 5 Solar System Imager (#93711), the 5-megapixel planetary camera, with its 1.25″ nosepiece fitted. Visible cosmetic wear from use — scuffs and finish marks on the body and nosepiece — with no functional faults observed. The original box, USB cable, software CD and manual are not part of this sale.

Condition Notes

Stated plainly so there are no surprises after it arrives:

  • No USB cable. The camera connects over USB 2.0 and needs a cable to run. Tell us what you are plugging into and we will confirm the right one before you order.
  • No software CD or printed manual. Neither is a loss in practice — the camera is DirectShow compatible, so it works with the common capture programs, and current software and documentation come from Celestron’s own downloads rather than the disc.
  • No original box. It ships in our own protective packaging.
  • Cosmetic wear. Scuffs and finish marks on the body and nosepiece, consistent with regular use. Nothing that affects operation.
  • Not bench-tested by us. We have not run this camera on a scope, so we are not making a performance claim beyond the absence of visible faults.

About the NexImage 5

The NexImage 5 is Celestron’s 5-megapixel planetary and lunar imager, built on an ON Semiconductor MT9P031 CMOS sensor — 2592 × 1944 pixels at 2.2 µm, on a 5.7 × 4.28 mm sensor, with 12-bit A/D conversion. Those small pixels are the point: at the long effective focal lengths planetary imaging uses, 2.2 µm samples fine detail that larger pixels average away.

It works the way all planetary imaging does — capture a long video run, then stack the sharpest frames to get underneath the atmosphere. Frame rates run from 6.23 to 52.37 fps at the lowest resolution and 0.71 to 5.99 fps at full 5 MP, so the resolution you choose is a direct trade against how many frames you gather per minute. It connects over USB 2.0 and is DirectShow compatible, which means it runs with iCap, IC Capture and the other common capture applications rather than being locked to one program.

The camera takes both a 1.25″ barrel and a C-thread, so it drops into any 1.25″ focuser or diagonal, and will also take C-mount lenses for wide-field or all-sky work.
