Product Overview
The DX-S version of Takahashi's T-mount for Nikon bodies. It attaches a Nikon camera to a Takahashi telescope so the telescope takes the place of a lens. Takahashi builds the Nikon T-mount in more than one form — the DX-S here and the DX-60W — which differ on the telescope side.
Who It's For
This is a good match if you shoot with a Nikon body and your Takahashi train calls for the DX-S form rather than the DX-60W.
Key Features & Design
- Nikon F bayonet: the camera side takes an F-mount body directly.
- DX-S form: one of two Nikon T-mounts Takahashi offers.
- Mechanical adapter only: no optical elements and no electronic communication.
Recommended Uses
Prime-focus astrophotography with a Nikon DSLR on a Takahashi refractor or astrograph.
Compatibility and Accessory Notes
The camera side is the Nikon F bayonet; Z-series mirrorless bodies need Nikon's FTZ adapter in addition. Takahashi does not publish the telescope-side thread or the optical length for the DX-S on this listing, and both matter for backfocus. Send us your telescope, corrector and camera and we will confirm the DX-S is the right one and work the spacing through with you.
Good to Know Before You Order
DX-S or DX-60W: two Nikon T-mounts exist and they terminate differently on the telescope side. We stock both, and confirming which your train needs takes one message.
Mechanical only: no electrical contact, so the camera has no aperture or lens data. Shooting is in manual with the telescope as the lens, which is normal for prime-focus work.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it difficult to set up?
No — the camera clicks onto it exactly as it would onto a lens.
Which cameras does it fit?
Nikon bodies with the F bayonet. Z-series bodies work with the FTZ adapter added.
Will autofocus work?
No — there is no electronic link. Focus is done at the telescope's focuser.
How is this different from the DX-60W?
The telescope side differs. Tell us what your train presents and we will confirm which one fits.
Bottom Line
The DX-S form of Takahashi's Nikon T-mount — worth a quick check against your train, since the DX-60W is its close sibling.
