Used – Excellent Condition. A MoonLite CS2 2″ Crayford focuser in gold anodising, built in the Dual Rate with Shaft Lock configuration and threaded for a standard SCT rear cell. Near-new throughout — smooth action across the full travel, no slip under load, clean anodising and clean threads.

Upgrades & Enhancements
- Shaft Lock option: a micro shaft-lock system on the left-side coarse knob. It uses a miniature brass compression-ring clamp that grips the focus shaft itself. Because the clamp acts on the shaft rather than on the drawtube, locking focus does not push the drawtube sideways — which is the failure mode of a thumbscrew bearing directly on the tube, where tightening down shifts the image just as you commit to it. On a long-exposure or planetary run that difference is the whole point of having a lock at all.
- Dual Rate focusing: separate coarse and fine knobs, so you can travel quickly to rough focus and then work in small increments without changing your grip.
- 6 lb load rating: MoonLite rates the Dual Rate with Shaft Lock configuration at 6 lb. That covers most imaging trains built on an SCT — a cooled camera, filter wheel and off-axis guider together.
Condition Notes
- Excellent throughout. No functional faults, and cosmetics are close to new.
- No focus motor or controller. This is the manual configuration. MoonLite’s stepper and DC motor options are not part of this sale.
- Travel and profile height not measured. We have not put a rule on the drawtube travel or the focuser’s installed height. If your SCT imaging train is tight on back focus and you need those figures before committing, ask and we will measure this exact unit for you.
About the MoonLite CS2
MoonLite focusers are machined in the United States and have a long-standing reputation among imagers for holding position under a loaded imaging train — which is the job an SCT’s stock focus mechanism does least well. Moving focus off the primary mirror and onto a Crayford at the rear cell removes mirror flop from the equation: focus happens in the focuser, and the mirror stays locked where you put it.
The CS2 threads directly onto a standard SCT rear cell at 2″ x 24 TPI, so it fits Schmidt-Cassegrains carrying that thread without an adapter. It is a 2″ Crayford, which is the format that suits most SCT imaging work.
Gold is one of MoonLite’s anodising choices rather than a different model — mechanically this is the same focuser as any other CS2 in the same configuration.
