The Celestron StarSense AutoAlign V2 (SKU 94034) is the latest version of Celestron's automatic telescope alignment accessory. It aligns a compatible Celestron computerized (GoTo) telescope to the night sky in about three minutes — with no user input and no need to identify a single star. The system pairs a compact sky-imaging camera with a dedicated StarSense hand control that takes the place of your existing NexStar hand controller. The camera captures images of the sky, matches the star patterns against an internal database of celestial objects, and calculates exactly where your telescope is pointed, delivering fast setup plus advanced multi-point mount modeling for precise GoTo accuracy across the whole sky.

Who Is This Product Best For?

StarSense AutoAlign V2 suits beginners who want effortless, hands-off alignment as well as intermediate and advanced visual observers and astroimagers who want superior pointing accuracy for centering objects in an eyepiece or camera frame. New users get an instant "set up and go" experience; experienced users gain advanced mount modeling that previously required a laptop and costly software. It is for owners of compatible Celestron computerized mounts only.

Why Choose This Product?

  • Aligns in ~3 minutes with no prior knowledge of the night sky required.
  • No GPS, compass, or leveling needed — star-pattern recognition does the work.
  • Advanced mount modeling with additional calibration stars for horizon-to-horizon GoTo accuracy.
  • Great for astroimaging — precise pointing helps place targets in the camera's field of view.
  • Replaces expensive modeling software with built-in functionality.
  • Broad compatibility across current and many older Celestron computerized mounts.

Recommended Uses

  • Fast, automatic GoTo alignment for casual visual observing sessions
  • Precise multi-star mount modeling for visual and imaging accuracy
  • Improving target centering for astrophotography and EAA
  • Simplifying setup for new astronomers and public outreach

Compatibility and Accessory Notes

  • Mounts: Celestron computerized mounts including Advanced VX, CGX, CGX-L, CGEM / CGEM II / CGEM DX, CGE / CGE Pro, CPC / CPC DX, NexStar SE, NexStar SLT, NexStar Evolution, Astro Fi, and SkyProdigy. (Confirm your specific mount against Celestron's current V2 compatibility list.)
  • Mounts that may require an Aux Port Splitter (#93919): CG-5, LCM, and NexStar GT (2015 and newer).
  • Mounting: Includes brackets to mount in place of the finderscope on most non-SCT tubes, or in the secondary finder holes on most Celestron SCT rear cells.
  • Connection: Connects via the mount's AUX port; USB connection allows user firmware upgrades.
  • Included: StarSense camera, StarSense hand control, mounting brackets, and connection cable.

Important Limitations

  • Celestron computerized (GoTo) mounts only. It will not work with manual/non-computerized telescopes.
  • Not for Sky-Watcher mounts — those require the separate StarSense AutoAlign for Sky-Watcher (#94006).
  • Certain mounts (CG-5, LCM, NexStar GT) may require an additional Aux Port Splitter (#93919), sold separately.
  • It replaces your existing hand control during use.
  • It is an alignment accessory, not an autoguider — it does not provide active guiding corrections during exposures. For guiding, see the Celestron StarSense AutoGuider.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this good for beginners? Yes — it's one of the easiest ways to get a Celestron GoTo scope aligned, with no star-identification needed.

What is it best used for? Fast automatic alignment and precise mount modeling for both visual observing and astrophotography.

Is it for visual observing or astrophotography? Both — it improves GoTo pointing for visual use and helps center targets for imaging.

How is the V2 different from the original? It is the current-generation StarSense AutoAlign. Check Celestron's product page for the latest hardware details specific to this version.

What mounts is it compatible with? Most current and many older Celestron computerized mounts (see the compatibility list above). Some require the #93919 Aux Port Splitter.

How is it different from an autoguider? StarSense AutoAlign handles alignment and pointing accuracy; it does not guide during long exposures. For active guiding, the Celestron StarSense AutoGuider is a separate product.

When should it not be recommended? For non-Celestron mounts (use #94006 for Sky-Watcher), manual telescopes, or anyone who only needs guiding rather than alignment.

Our Recommendation

At Ontario Telescope and Accessories, we recommend the Celestron StarSense AutoAlign V2 for any owner of a compatible Celestron computerized telescope who wants faster setup and more accurate GoTo pointing. It's an excellent first upgrade for beginners and a real accuracy boost for imagers thanks to its built-in mount modeling. Skip it only if you have a non-Celestron mount, a manual telescope, or you specifically need autoguiding rather than alignment. If you run a CG-5, LCM, or NexStar GT, plan on adding the #93919 Aux Port Splitter.
