About the Tele Vue 2x Barlow

A Barlow is the cheapest way to double your eyepiece collection, but only if it's a good one — a mediocre Barlow will quietly undo the sharpness of every eyepiece you put in it. Tele Vue's has been the reference against which the others get measured for decades, and it's the reason so many observers own exactly one Barlow and never think about it again. Drop it in ahead of a favourite eyepiece and you get double the magnification with the contrast and star images intact, which on the Moon, planets and tight double stars is exactly where it matters.

It's also a practical way to make a wide-field, comfortable eyepiece do high-power duty: a long-focal-length eyepiece with generous eye relief, Barlowed, is far easier to look through than a short one at the same magnification. This is a current Tele Vue product — new it's about $153 USD — so at $120 CAD this is a straightforward saving on a piece of gear you'd otherwise buy sooner or later.
