About the Starbound Observing Chair

The Starbound is the observing chair a lot of people end up buying after trying everything else. The seat slides along a ladder-style rail and locks anywhere from roughly 9" to 32", so it works at the eyepiece of a low Dobsonian just as well as a refractor on a tall tripod — and you can change height in the dark by feel, without hunting for a knob. The alloy steel frame is rated to around 300 lb, weighs about 16 lb, and folds flat for the car.

The reason it matters: at high magnification, the difference between standing hunched over an eyepiece and sitting steady is the difference between seeing a detail and missing it. A proper observing chair is one of the biggest upgrades to what you actually see, and at this price it's an easy one to justify — well under half the cost of a new one.
