The RC8 uses low-thermal-expansion quartz primary and secondary mirrors, so focus holds steady as the night cools, and its fixed primary mirror eliminates the image shift you get when focusing many other reflector designs. A steel tube with multiple knife-edge baffles suppresses stray light for better contrast.

With 1624mm of focal length at f/8, the RC8 is a superb small-galaxy, planetary nebula and globular cluster imager — and the top and bottom dovetails make it easy to mount and to piggyback guiding gear.
